“Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs: Legal History and Recent Scrutiny”

Even though Combs has rarely been charged with a crime, he has had legal issues in the past.

He entered a guilty plea to assaulting a record executive in 1999 and was ordered to complete one day of anger management therapy. He was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the same year that a shooting incident at a New York nightclub occurred.

Rapper Shyne, whose actual name is Moses Barrow, was accused of firing shots into the audience, and witnesses claimed to have seen Combs carrying a gun at the club. A gun was found during a police stop of Combs’ car, which Jennifer Lopez, Combs’s ex-girlfriend, was also riding in. Shyne was found guilty of his role in the club shooting, while Combs was cleared of all charges related to firearms and bribery.

The music mogul is under more scrutiny now that Ventura’s lawsuit and additional assault allegations against Combs have surfaced. He left his position as chairman of the media network Revolt, and Hulu canceled plans for a reality show that would have focused on his family.
